THE ROAD TO HEAVEN

More important than where you live now, is where you will live forever. Have you ever taken a trip and not known how to get to your destination? Just as you would look at a map of Kansas to find your way, so you must look at the Bible to find your way to Heaven. The Bible says, “Narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt. 7:14). Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Jesus is the only way to Heaven and He gave these directions on how to get there.

Realize you are a sinner. No matter where you are physically, everyone starts the same place spiritually. All are sinners. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (Romans 3:23) Man comes short of Heaven (the glory of God) because of sin!

Realize there is a penalty for your sin. Not only does sin keep you out of Heaven, but it also condemns you to Hell. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…”. Sin brings both physical and spiritual death. “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. “ (Revelation 20:14)
Realize Jesus paid the penalty. Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection provided a way for you to go to Heaven. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Since Jesus was the only One who could pay for our sin, He is the only Way to Heaven.

Repent of your sin and receive Jesus as your Saviour. The final part of Jesus’ directions is to repent and receive Him. Acts 20:21 says, “Repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” In order to go to Heaven from your home, you must accept Christ by calling on Him in prayer. He tells us in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Follow Christ’s directions by praying in faith the following prayer, or one similar to it, to receive Him now:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, please forgive me of my sin, and take me to Heaven when I die. I believe that you died and rose again for me. I am trusting you completely and nothing I can do. Thank you Jesus! Amen.

My Testimony

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior on September 21st 2003. It's a rather interesting story that I'll try and condense down. I had worked in radio all my life, and at this period of time I was pulling some Saturday night shifts; well we (the station) picked up an additional church broadcast for Sunday mornings. The pastor of this church used to drop the taped program by on Saturday nights; he talked to me about salvation (in a very non-obtrusive way) and genuinely showed interest in me and my life. I really wasn't interested in this whole 'salvation' thing, or 'getting saved'. Each time he'd give me a gospel tract--which I'd simply throw away because I assumed it talked about how you had to be in his church for God to even begin to LIKE you. After about TEN years of almost weekly visits I came to a very low point in my life. I decided to take this pastor up on his continuing invitation to come to church. I only figured it would be nice to know more folks and have an additional 'support network'. At that point I really wasn't interested in anything 'spiritual'. I heard some pretty harsh preaching that morning; but it was preaching I agreed with. I completely agreed that the standards and morals of our society were dropping, and dropping fast. A few times he asked a very important question: "Do you know for SURE you're going to heaven when you die?" Each time he asked that I thought "TRICK QUESTON! You gotta work your way into heaven EVERY day!" So again, at the closing invitation; with heads bowed and eyes shut he asked anyone who was not "100% sure your going to heaven" to put up their hand; you were supposed to put up your hand if you "are only 50%, 75% sure" again I was thinking-trick question. I figured he was probably going to preach some more to those aragant folks who assumed they could know for sure. But that wasn't what he did. He invited anyone who put their hand up to come up to the front and he'd have someone show them FROM THE BIBLE how the could know for sure. I didn't go. It would be a waste of time because their couldn't possibly be anyway to know that! Fortunately a guy slid down my pew and asked if I'd like to have it explained. I figured why not? What have I got to loose? He pointed out how the Bible said that I'm a sinner (Rom. 3:23) --I knew I was a sinner, that wasn't news to me. Next he told me because of even ONE sin I deserved eternity in hell (Rom 6:23) and that I couldn't do anything good enough to make up for that sin (Eph 2:8-9) BUT there was a way out; Christ died for ME (Jon 3:16 & Rom 5:9) and it was just a matter of accepting a free gift, and he told me then how (with my heart) to accept that gift (Rom 10:9-10 & John 3:36.) I sat there in amazement! But I was able to accept it really was that easy! I bowed my head in prayer and asked Jesus Christ to be my personal savior. Life has been incredible ever since (yes there has been low and high points--but that assurance that my future is in heaven makes a huge difference.)

None of this probably would have happened had the above mentioned pastor been faithful to speaking with me almost each week for about 10 years. Because he did; when I got to that low point, HE was the first person I thought of for help. I have been (what I consider) a faithful church attnedee in that same church for about 5 years now. I am loyal to, and love my pastor.
